The Pigeon

The Pigeon was established in 1879, at the moment when the Serbian people did not have any other children’s periodical. It was issued in Sombor in the period from 11 January 1879, to its double issue 11/12 in 1913. For 28 years it was edited by Jovan Blagojević, the teacher and director of the Serbian High School for girls. After Blagojević, Kosta Stojačić became editor of the paper (1907-1914). The Pigeon was issued by the book shop of Milivoj Karakašević. The Pigeon had articles connected to literature as well as  interesting written parts from various areas, short reviews from specific Serbian publications and magazines, reviews of new books and it nourished the patriotic feeling. It found its readers in all parts populated by the Serbian people.  In The Pigeon you could read the works of Mita Popović, Vladimir M. Jovanović, Vojislav Ilić, Jovan Dučić, Aleksa Šantic, Branislav Nušić, Miloš Crnjanski, Jaša Prodanović and many others.
